Our journey with Robotics started in 2017, with our Year 5 & 6 students becoming involved with LEGO robots in real world, problem solving contexts.  We saw instant engagement and development of skills and knowledge across a range on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) as well as the 'soft skills' and Key Competencies - Cooperation, Perseverance, Communication.

We sent a team (Mayfair Mavericks) to a National Tournament in December of 2017 and performed extremely well for our first year finishing 8th overall.

In 2018 we attended the National Tournament again and in collaboration with Lucknow School we were nominated to attend an International Tournament in May of 2019, at Legoland, California.

The team morphed into the NZ Blackbots and we competed on the world stage.  What we thought would be soley a 'learning experience' turned out to be much more, with the team earning a 2nd Place Trophy.  An amazing accomplishment given there were teams from all over the world, with students aged up to 16 years of age.

As a result of the continued success we developed out partnership more with Lucknow School and developed a state of the art and ground breaking Robotics and Digital Learning Room - The Metroplex and increased the number of robots. This paid off who at the conclusion of 2019 at the Nationals the  collective team won awards for robot design, innovative solution and the champions award that qualified for the 2020 World Champs in Houston, USA. At the end of 2020 we won 9 of the 13 awards including the champion finalists.  We are now one of the most successful international robotics programmes.
