Mayfair Rongoā Garden
Rongoā Māori was identified by our families as one of the most important topics they wanted taught at our school. As Kaiako we have begun a learning journey to plant our own Rongoā garden and learn with our tamariki the medicinal uses for each plant. Our tamariki are learning to become kaitiaki of our garden, taking care of the native plants, and enjoying the outdoors environment.

Rongoā Rakau are used to treat a range of conditions such as aches or pains, infections, colds, and coughs. There are over 200 different Rongoā Rakau used in Aotearoa.
Vision
Our Mayfair staff worked collectively to create the Rongoā garden filled with native plants such as mānuka/kānuka, Karamū, Pōhutukawa, Kawakawa, Kōwhai, flax and Koromiko.
Mayfair kaiako want to pass on the wisdom learnt about our Rongoā raukau to our tamariki and community.
This garden space is an outdoor learning environment which tamariki can explore, discover, and develop an understanding of how to be kaitiaki of the natural world.
