POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING
PB4L @ Mayfair School
PB4L - Positive Behaviour for Learning was established at Mayfair School in 2015. It is an evidence-based framework developed for use in New Zealand schools.
Mayfair’s four values RESPECT, IDENTITY, RESILIENCE, INTEGRITY, were developed in consultation with students, staff and whānau as what we like to see in our Mayfair students, in the classroom, the playground and in the Community.
PB4L is a schoolwide process for teaching social and behavioural skills so that the focus can be on teaching and learning. Encouraging and rewarding positive behaviour is more effective than punishing negative behaviour.
At Mayfair, PB4L ensures that
-
our school environment is positive, safe, inclusive and supportive
-
behaviour expectations that are clear, fair and consistent
-
expected behaviours are explicitly taught, reinforced and rewarded
Positive Behaviour is rewarded with
-
SWAGs (Students Working to Achieve Greatness) identifying a value that has been shown. SWAGs are collated and weekly draws for prizes are held at school assemblies.
-
SUPER SWAGS - are when a student has shown all 4 values. Rewarded with a prize.
-
PLAYGROUND SWAGS - collated in classes for “Classiest Class” Certificate in assembly
-
-
BANDS - when a student has received 20 SWAGs for displaying a value
-
HAT - blue oak - when a student has received all four bands
-
HAT - gold oak - when a student has received two bands for each of the four values

IDENTITY Mana Motuhake
